Cemeteries have never been creepy to me. I view the dead the same way I view the living. Sometimes quite literally, but that’s another story.
This painting is how I imagine the spirits of Mount Hope. I think of them strolling across the sweeping lawn to visit old friends and welcome new ones. Never dark and scary though some of their lives and deaths were. I see them bathed in light knowing those who haven’t found their peace are searching for it elsewhere.
There is a story of a woman who asks visitors if they have seen her daughter then vanishes as the person looks around for her. I hope she finds her daughter and can then join the other spirits as they stroll among friends and neighbors in love and light, because here, at Mount Hope, there is peace.
